Old MAT Science Course Requirements

Before being allowed to Student Teach in Earth Science the following are minimum requirements based on the Equivalent of a BA in Earth and Space Sciences at Stony Brook. Stony Brook courses are in parentheses. 

Stony Brook University education programs are presently undergoing review for certification. The following requirements may be revised during the 2003-2004 academic year.

Two semesters of calculus
_____Semester 1 in Calculus (MAT 125 or 131)
_____Semester 2 in Calculus (MAT  126 or 132 )
_____One semester of physics (PHY 121, 125 or131)
Two semesters of chemistry, biology or physics
_____Semester 1___________________________
_____Semester 2___________________________
_____One semester of Physical Geology with lab (GEO 102 +112)
_____One semester of Historical Geology with lab (GEO 103 + 113)
_____One semester of Astronomy with lab (AST 101 +112)
_____One semester of Meteorology (ATM 205)
Four semesters of upper division geology courses
_____ Geology 1___________________________
_____ Geology 2___________________________
_____ Geology 3___________________________
_____ Geology 4___________________________
In addition four upper division (or graduate level) courses
in one of the following disciplines.
