The Earth Science Educational Resource
Center conducts workshops, distributes public domain computer software via the
World Wide Web, makes available educational materials and serves as a source of
educational tools for teachers. Glenn Richard as well as a large fraction of the
faculty and a significant fraction of the graduate students in the Department of
Geosciences participate in or lead activities associated with the center.
Earth Science Research Project -

offers opportunities for Earth Science Teachers to learn research approaches and to under
take independent research for graduate credit in GEO

Long Island Geologists
consists of about 400 participants who are high school teachers,
faculty in colleges and universities, and professionals working for government
agencies, public agencies, and private companies. Each year the activities include
field trips in October and June, and in April a conference on the "Geology of Long Island
and Metropolitan New York". In-service credit is available for teachers for
these events.
Museum of Long
Island Natural Sciences The educational programs are designed to use Long Island as a
natural laboratory to explain and interpret geological and natural history. Educational
programs have included: laboratory activities for K-12 students, exhibits in the Museum
gallery, field trips, public lectures, visits to area schools, the development of teaching
tools and curricula, and in-service teacher training.
