Professor Hanson's main research interests in
geochemistry and isotope geology are: The use of major and trace elements,
radiogenic isotopes, and radiometric dating for evaluating processes that
contributed to the evolution of the crust. The development of new
geochronological approaches for U-Pb dating of metamorphic and sedimentary
minerals; and the application of major and trace element and isotope systems to
groundwater, soil and environmental studies particularly those relating to the
geology of Long Island. Look at his web site for more details of current and
past research.

Interest:
Jennie is interested in understanding non-point sources of nitrate and
perchlorate contamination in groundwater using geochemical tracers such as
boron isotopes and Cl, Br concentrations. In addition she is measuring nitrate
concentrations under maintained turfgrass sites to understand how these
concentrations change as a function of fertilizer type and soil/site
properties. Read more about her research here.

Sunny is studying a septic tank/cesspool plume. She is interested in
understanding how the nitrate speciation and redox conditions change in the
plume as well as understanding the geometry of the plume as it moves through
the groundwater. She has some exciting and perplexing results. Learn about
them here.
